I have recently had clients tell me their insurance rates have gone up or they have had a hard time getting business loans because of their LexisNexis report.

Similar to your credit reports, companies that offer mortgages, insurance, business loans and a handful of other products view this information to help determine your risk profile.

What is LexisNexis:

LexisNexis is a consumer reporting agency that provides information about individuals that commercial organizations, government agencies and nonprofits need to get a complete picture of individuals, businesses and assets. LexisNexis reports cover numerous aspects of consumers’ financial lives, helping other companies figure out whether to renew your insurance, approve your loan or offer you a job, among others.

What is included in a Consumer Disclosure Report?

Your professional and financial life are revealed in a Consumer Disclosure Report, which is similar to data in credit reports. It will include the following items:
  • The consumer’s C.L.U.E. report (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange)
  • Real estate transaction and ownership data
  • Records of liens, judgements, and bankruptcy
  • Previous addresses
  • Public records information

Why should I view this report?

Similar to the credit reports from the big three, your LexisNexis file can contain mistakes, such as outdated information or data about someone else, which can adversely affect your finances.

How to get a Consumer Disclosure Report?

Everyone is entitled to one free copy of their LexisNexis report each year, thanks to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACT Act). You can get it online by visiting their website or clicking here or call 866-897-8126.

I strongly recommend making it a habit to frequently check for errors on credit reports from the three bureaus—but you may want to add LexisNexis to the list.

If you find that you have errors on your LexisNexis credit report email me at
erik@thdcreditconsulting.com or call us at (800) 822-7120. We can dispute this inaccurate data so that it is removed from your report.
